Three slow days in Penang
I booked the ferry from Butterworth on a whim, with nothing planned past the first night. That turned out to be the whole point.
Day one: arrival and nothing else
The plan was to have no plan. I checked into a small guesthouse off Lebuh Chulia, dropped my bag, and walked until my feet complained. George Town rewards aimlessness — every corner has a mural, a clan house, or a coffee shop older than my grandfather.
Day two: the rain decides
It poured. Instead of fighting it, I sat in a kopitiam for two hours nursing a kopi-o and watched the street flood and drain. I read half a book. I have not been that bored, or that content, in months.
Day three: the long way home
I took the ferry back instead of the bridge, just to stretch the leaving out. Slow travel is not about seeing less. It is about letting a place set the pace instead of the other way around.
